The full renovation of a small apartment in heart of Frederiksberg, Copenhagen presented the opportunity to rethink how much living space a young couple, with plans to have a family in the future, really needs.

The apartment is located on a fourth floor in a building from 1969 with an elevator. The apartment was old on purchase and needed a renovation. The biggest challenge was to get the most out of the limited space available. This was achieved by a layout transformation and a usage of bespoke cabinetry.

Only minimal demolition was required during the renovation.

The bathroom and the closet space around the entrance area were optimized and the kitchen was moved into the living area. The former kitchen serves as a guest room and an office and will cover a room for a child in the future.

The design is characterized by two contrasting elements - a warm brown kitchen finish and rough concrete blocks used in the middle of the space. This adds a touch of texture to the room. Additionally, mirrors were used in several places to optically enlarge the space.

Thereby the result is a minimalist, uncluttered apartment, with cozy living space with an open kitchen and maximized usable space.
